JOE PERRY Explains What It Takes To Keep AEROSMITH Together

According to The Pulse Of Radio, Joe Perry spoke candidly about his legendary and often bumpy relationship with AEROSMITH frontman Steven Tyler. While publicizing his upcoming memoir, "Rocks: My Life In And Out Of Aerosmith", which is due out on October 7, Perry talked about how he approaches his partnership with Tyler after all these years, telling Vanyaland.com, "There are families out there who don't talk to each other for 10 years. There are brothers out there that don't talk to each other because they're no use to each other or for whatever reason. I mean if we operated like that there would be no band and we wouldn't be able to make the music we make and perform the way we perform and that to me is the goal."

He went on to explain that watching the band come undone served as a template how to carry on in the future: "We achieved it once and let the thing fall apart and rebuilt it again on what I thought was firmer ground but people don't change much over the years. I guess that's part of the lesson."

Steven Tyler told The Pulse Of Radio a while ago, that when you're in a band — or any close relationship — as he's been with Joe Perry, creativity tends to trump the trouble. "Y'know, sometimes differences do get in the way, but when we start playing together, it just is the truth of why we were both born and put on this planet," he said. "There's a lot of things that I hate Joe for saying and he hates me for saying, and things we've done back and forth, but this band is a band and married forever. So we may have our differences, but the marriage still holds, especially when there's a stage for us to get up on and rock out on."

Perry worked on "Rocks: My Life In And Out Of Aerosmith" with author David Ritz, who has written books with B.B. King, Jerry Wexler and Bettye LaVette.

Tyler's "Does The Noise In My Head Bother You?" autobiography was issued in 2011, while the band's drummer, Joey Kramer, had his own tale, "Hit Hard: A Story Of Hitting Rock Bottom At The Top", published in 2009. AEROSMITH bassist Tom Hamilton is also working on a book.
